New for this year was that HSCC was part of the inaugural CPSWEEK (Cyber-Physical Systems Week) - a co-located cluster of three conferences: HSCC, RTAS (Real-Time and Embedded Technology and Applications Sym- sium), and IPSN (International Conference on Information Processing in Sensor Networks). National, European and international concepts and strategies concerning the legal and ethical framework of chimera and hybrid research are still largely missing, even though they are absolutely necessary in order to use the potential of chimera and hybrid research effectively and efficiently for the benefit of science and society. The outcome of the CHIMBRIDS-Project successfully sheds light on the chances and risks of this research and provides legal solutions to existing problems in order to help decision-makers fulfil their tasks in an informed and efficient manner.This comprehensive volume details the complete results, contributed by 25 scholars from 15 European member states, Canada, China, Israel, Japan, Switzerland and the US, with descriptive reports of the legal situation in specific countries and in-depth analysis of all scientific, medical, ethical and legal implications of chimera and hybrid research.
The objective of this state-of-the-art survey is to give a coherent overview of the main topics and results achieved by the Network of Excellence REWERSE on 'Reasoning on the Web', funded by the European Commission and Switzerland within the '6th Framework Programme' (FP6), from 2004 to 2008. The material has been organized into eight chapters, each of which addresses one of the main topics of REWERSE: hybrid reasoning with rules and ontologies, lessons in versatility or how query languages adapt to the Web, evolution and reactivity in the Semantic Web, rule-based policy representations and reasoning, component models for Semantic Web languages, controlled English for reasoning on the Semantic Web, semantic search with GoPubMed, and information integration in bioinformatics with ontologies and standards. Each chapter gives an in-depth coverage of the subject and provides an extensive bibliography with pointers to further literature.
